Originally from Montreal, Quebec, Karina Lapierre-Douglas relocated to Toronto, Ontario in 2001, where she actively participated in the art community. Recently, she and her husband made a life-changing decision and moved to the country, giving up their big city ways. Karina and Stuart now operate a small homestead called Hillcrest Farm in the agricultural community of Stirling, Ontario, where they raise chickens, ducks and quails.
Farm life has imbued my art with renewed enhusiasm. The connection I have with the animals we raise and the plants we grow is now what fuels my desire to paint. The art I create, like the food we produce, is what keeps me alive.
Old barn wood, with all its ancient scars, tells the story of all those who, over the last 150 years or so, have farmed and lived here before me. By bringing together the various textures of the farm, I hope to produce and share a bit of food for the soul.
